If you need over 10mg you can get a 10-20 mg pre filled injection. For me I think 15 is optimal, so I now have 2 boxes of 2.5mg - 10mg that I don’t know what to do with!! Good luck! I hope you and your partner get a good Christmas present!!

Can you inject 10mg and 5mg on the other side (to make up the 15mg)? Just wondering if it is possible to combine the injections.  I only have 3 left, think I was given 4 from the hospital, and we have wasted one already.

Not without speaking to your ED nurse or doctor first. It can take a few goes to get the technique right so they might want to check you are doing it right before considering a higher dose. Perhaps approach the next couple as practice rather than expecting success? When John got the technique sorted, 2.5mg was enough to end up in A&E with a priapism but it only tended to work once out of every three attempts!

I had another go last night "cranking" the dose to 10, it made very little difference to the 7.5 previously. Thankfully, the strap-on came to the rescue. I will keep getting my wife to persevere, as I cannot do it myself, I hate needles.

I will say this again, to anyone in the same boat, give the Zoro Strap On a go, excellent alternative while we wait for our little man to wake up. I feel a lot better now we can have some intimacy and more importantly get my wife to orgasm twice in one night! The challenge is just hiding the tool from the kids!

Hi All.

I'm a little confused by the dosages referred to here regarding Alprostadil.  I use Viridal Duo (which is another form of Alprostadil), but the dosages are in micrograms, not miligrams.  I have been prescribed 10 micrograms, and this causes significant discomfort.  I can't imagine what 10 miligrams might do!

Can anyone clarify why products containing Alprostadil have different dosages?

Thanks.

Jed.

They don't - we were all just typing mg when we meant mcg

Jed, the dose is micrograms (mcg). Putting mg is usually a typo, but we understand what is meant.

I know caverject dual chamber comes in 10&20mcg units with the option to choose what dose you actually inject.

Alprostadil pellets that are inserted into the urethra come in 1000,750,500 and 250 mcg.

Thanks Chris

Thanks to Lyn & Chris for explaining the confusion about micrograms and milligrams.

Much appreciated.

Thanks gentlemen for sharing your experiences. Reading all these posts has been helpful. With that in mind, I am going the share MY story and would like to apologize in advance for its length.

I am 65 and am 10 months post Robotic Prostatectomy. My surgeon had me start pelvic floor exercises 4 months PRIOR to my surgery, so when the catheter was removed, I was halfway there to complete continence. Nights were immediately dry (I guess because when lying down there is no pressure on the bladder) and after another 3 months of working with my PF Physio, I was completely dry.... only experiencing the occasional little squirt.  5 weeks after surgery I got a pump and stared rehab using it 3-5 times a week. If I use a silicone ring, I have a 75% hard erection and am able to masturbate to orgasm about once a week. I have to admit, I was unsure of whether or not I would ever be able to climax post-surgery and when I did, I almost cried!!! On one occasion I was able to orgasm without any erection which really boosted my confidence in recovering some normalcy to my life. I have been very reluctant to introduce the pump into the bedroom with the wife. In my head, all scenarios would make it a mood-killer for both of us. (Gents... can anyone share their experiences in this subject? Tell us how you introduce the pump into your night of love-making and what does your partner think of the whole thing?)

Backing up a bit....... I have not had any hint of an erection since surgery. I take Cialis 5mg daily as part of my rehab. My urologist also gave me a script for Viagra 100mg and asked me to try that on nights when the wife and I are going to have sex. I have tried it twice and nothing happened. I was quite down about this whole situation but after reading posts from many men, see that regaining one's erection can take up to 3 years.

I finally got my prescription for Alprostadil last month. The ED nurse showed me how to inject it, giving me the full injection that first time but telling me I could use 1/2 in the future. She left me alone to "stimulate myself" and see how it worked. I never really got more than 1/2 hard but the soreness that I felt was pretty surprising....enough to make me start thinking I might NOT try a second injection EVER. Thankfully I read posts from men like you who had similar experiences which encouraged me to try a 2nd time, reading that the pain would be less in subsequent attempts. They were right! I injected at home in the bathroom on a scheduled night of fun with the wife. This time the pain was more like a low-grade soreness which I was able to ignore because of the complete erection I was now sporting! WOOHOO!!!!! Having sex was a bit of a stop-start situation as the physical pressure of trying to penetrate her, would push some of the blood out of my erection and make me soft. Pulling out allowed me to get hard again so we continued this way. Just the ability to get hard, and be inside her was a wonderful experience for us both! I am considering using a soft silicone ring after injection the next time I inject in the hopes that the blood will be less likely to be pushed out. I have heard back from 1 or 2 gents who have tried this but would appreciate hearing from others.  I am also looking forward to trying Caverject as soon as it becomes available where I live. I guess it is the most popular choice as it is out of stock EVERYWHERE!!!

We summoned up the courage to give the injection another go yesterday morning. The kids were all up and there was no expectation to do anything, this was just another trial at rehab. We went for the maximum dose of 10 and there was some sort of election, not fully hard, but was there. So 2 questions:

Will the injection work if your surgery was non-nerve sparring?

Will increasing to 15-20 make any difference. Considering, not tried the injection since December.

Hi Gee Baba,

I believe that the injections don't require any nerves to have been spared, but more knowledgeable people on here may say otherwise.

Increasing the dose may well give you a firmer erection, but there is the chance of increased discomfort as well.  I would suggest trying 15 mcg. first and then increase to 20 mcg. another time if the results make it worthwhile.

Good luck with experimenting.

No nerves required. I was told to start at 20!

Gee-baba, can you confirm which type of injection you are on?

Franci, which injection were you starting at 20?

John started on Caverject and the initial dose given by the ED nurse in clinic was 10mcg but at home he was told to begin at 2.5 and dial up each time if it didn't work. He found 5mcg was enough (when it worked which was about 30% of the time). His trip to A&E was as a result of 5mcg

With Invicorp, the dose is set at 25mcg

My dad has caverject but needs 100mcg so gets a special single chamber version that has to be mixed at home.

It may be nothing to do with the dose and everything to do with getting the technique exactly right. I wouldn't be comfortable about using more than the maximum dose without medical advice / supervision ... are you thinking to inject two doses at once?

It was Caverject.. I remember the consultants words well " It would give me an erection if I was stood naked in front of the hospital in a snow storm"!

Embarrassing for him the trial injection didn't go well as he squirted it all over his desk and didn't have a spare!

I was was given a batch of 4 at UCLH at my last appointment with Androlgy team in December. I tried 2.5 at the hospital - this was administered by my wife, nothing happened. Then tried 5mcg at home, still not much happened, then next trial was 7.5mcg not long after. After which I gave up, until last last Sunday, this time there was no expectation of sex. My wife watched a youtube video on how to do it again, as it has been a while, 7mths ago. This time there was some lift off at 10mcg (which was the full dose), but not quite hard enough for penetrative sex. The erection soon went away. I have another appointment with the team in August, so hopefully well go for invicorp this time.

If you get a "not quite good enough" result make sure you have a durex cock ring handy. They are easy and quick to put on and turn a not quite good enough in a perfectly acceptable!
Another trick - plenty of lube, you don't want to be messing about with it catching on the way in! Your dick that is not ring, they are pretty unobtrusive.

The perennial Q - Caverject supplies are shot at the mo where I live. Frustrating as it’s my life saver at the mo. All online pharmacies etc seem to be out too. Any ideas? And alternative?
