LDR Brachytherapy - 1 rollercoaster year later!

Well, 2 years to the day since I had my Brachy procedure.

I celebrated with a PSA test πŸ™„

But, the brilliant news is that consistent with bounce phenomenon my PSA has fallen again to a current level of 3.77 (from 6.65 at the end of January) πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸ™

Obviously, I've still got a long way to fall before I really feel like celebrating and boy is it stressful experiencing 'bounce' (if that's what it is - I hope it is!) but it's a great feeling to see a couple of consistent falls finally having previously only ever seen one immediately post procedure.

Think I might open a bottle 🍷 and think about a nightcap too!! πŸ₯ƒ

For anyone interested in what bounce can/may look like, here's my graph - 24 Months of PSA results since LDR BT

Brilliant news Paul.

I could imagine the bounce caused a lot of stress especially after the stress you had over the years previous.

Keep her lit man and I hope you enjoyed a bottle or two.

Thanks Bryan, still a way to go but definitely prefer going down to up! πŸ˜‚

And yes, defo can be quite stressful especially as you approach (yet another) test time but I suppose that's the same for all of us no matter where we are in our journeys or what path we've chosen to take.

Consultant appointment for me tomorrow, we'll hopefully talk more about golf than PSA results πŸ˜… and then reset until he schedules the next one!

Wow, nerves of steel to get through that Paul! The 24 month graph is still plunging like a stone, in a straight line. It's {almost} enough to get excited about the potential of the next psa, but maybe not quite.

Throws new light on the always vexed question of when to have various tests and biopsies and what to deduce from them, though bounce post brachy is a recognized result, as your research links show.

Haha thanks Jules, there's been a few nervy moments along the way!

It's an interesting pattern for sure and whilst there's quite a lot of papers out there discussing psa bounce, the fact that the cause of it still remains unexplained and that the magnitude and duration of the bounce can vary wildly makes everyone (patients and consultants) more than a little jumpy when the numbers initially start heading the wrong way.

Obviously the next 6-12 months will be key for me now and hopefully it just keeps going on the same downward trajectory 🀞 because whilst double bounces do occur, I'm not sure they do 24+months post procedure!

Double bounces😱😱😱😱

It's just to keep us on our toes Bryan!

Unfortunately, there can be multiple bounces so don't think it might just be 2! They are definitely rarer but have still been recorded!

The main thing to take away after LDR BT is to hope for a straight line down with the PSA results to your nadir but if they go up soon after treatment (within 24 months usually) then strap in because it could very well be bounce and patience will be required!

If it goes up after 36 months, it's almost certainly failure.

Cheers Paul

Strap in is right , that would be a very bumpy road, hopefully the psa goes down in a steady fashion,  but I'll brace myself for the bounce anyway.
