Managed to avoid surgery for 6 years after being advised to have the prostate removed so very glad I didn't take that advice.

In fact seeing the guy who advised it next week so that should be interesting.

I am very glad to read that you are doing well after your CryoTherapy.   That was offered to me in 2015, but, I had zero confidence in it. I opted for RRP and am very happy with that choice.

Maybe worth noting for others that surgery, of whatever type, works very well for very many.  However, you are happy with where you are and that is all that matters for you.

Very interesting thread. My husband wanted a focal treatment but cryo wasn’t offered by either of the 2 urologists we consulted with in the UK so travelled to the USA for a FLA having rejected the advised RP route.

Great to read your journey. With cryo

very glad to know results still good. Please continue to give updates from time to time as it is long term results that are in question on this treatment.

Latest PSA 4.2 - lowest for 8 years since the treatment. Very grateful to all at ULCH. Best wishes to all.

Great result Jervis, This thread predates my diagnosis, so very good to hear from long term survivors especially with a "novel" treatment.

Great news!

Over the pandemic my MRI scans were not done, and I relied on the PSA monitoring. This was a mistake as I was taking finasteride which reduces the PSA count.

The London hospital did an MRI scan in August - "just for my peace of mind" - and found a tumour  with a Gleason 4+5.

Fortunately, the cancer is still confined to the prostate, and I am now on hormone therapy pending radiotherapy in March 2023.  I am told that it is potentially curable and now I just hope for the best.

I would still go with cryotherapy but with better monitoring. It wasn't an effective cure, but it gave me nearly 10 years without side effects for which I am truly grateful.

Very disappointing that the monitoring was not managed better but 10 years... what a great advert for cryotherapy!

I am sorry to learn of this development. However, you have to remember that with a Prostate, regardless of how treated, there is always the possibility of a new tumour growing in it even years later, so regular monitoring remains essential.

Hope the radiation knocks out the new offender.

Completed the radiation treatment and no ill effects. Just 4 weeks of daily visits during which I carried on working.

My PSA is now 0.06 and the consultant is very pleased with the result. Measure PSA again in 6 months.

Are you having or did you have HT prior to your RT as this can of course affect your PSA. In any event , hope the RT beats your PCa.

Latest PSA is 0.02 and hormone treatment ends Nov 2024. Then 6 monthly PSA tests.
