Near the time I joined this forum about 2008, there was what was called the 'Great Debate' on screening. There were 4 leaders in the medical field, 2 supporting screening men at 50 by invitation and two opposed to it. It was held in a large hall with many and various interested parties including forums such at this present. Eventually, when a vote was taken it was almost unamously in favour of the motion. But this was not adopted by the Government of the time, citing the same arguements that the committee give now. However, in the meantime, there has been a great advance in diagnosis, particularly due to vast improvements in imagery, so fewer men have unnecessary treatment. Surely men should now have the opportunity to make an informed choice on whether to be screened and treated. Even some men who know something about PCa will not even bother to be screened - their choice but there are still men who know nothing of the subject and what can be a life changing and life limiting disease, so should be informed about screening and implications.
